best holiday destinations in the world.
THE BEACH CLUB AND ITS DESIGN
Opened in 2010, Potato Head Beach Club is a far cry from the simple, homely beach club one might imagine. Occupying a large oceanside parcel of land in Seminyak, Bali’s premier destination area, Potato Head Beach Club was designed by the acclaimed Indonesian architect Andra Matin. The entrance is dominated by a towering elliptical façade of mismatched 18th century teak window shutters collected from across the Indonesian archipelago. This unique façade frames the Beach Club’s 500-square-meter lawn, two bars, two restaurants and infinity pool
with views to the sparkling Indian Ocean beyond. Created by Potato Head Family
Founding Partners Ronald Akili and Jason Gunawan, the Beach Club’s varied
interiors are notable for the eclectic mix of contemporary furniture and art alongside
antiques. With more than a nod towards its beach side location, antique maritime artifacts can be found throughout the property.
RESTAURANTS AND BARS
The Beach Club, listed as number 43 in Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2017 , welcomes
a wide range of guests, from families and sun-worshippers throughout the day, to elegant drinkers and diners at sunset to the international party crowd until the early hours. These guests can choose between three restaurants, each with their own distinct visual and culinary style, and two bars.
Potato Head Beach Club has established itself as one of the most important
event and entertainment venues in Southeast Asia. Film and music festivals,
concerts and dance parties featuring globally recognised artists have all been held at the venue, and an annual programme of cultural events play a large part in the life of the Beach Club. Artists who have performed at the Beach Club
include Grace Jones, John Legend, Snoop Lion, A-Trak and Fat Bo y Slim and
the annual music and culture festival Sunny Side Up, which has welcomed
international artists Mark Ronson, Disclosure, Ellie Goulding, Azealia Banks, Big Sean and Phoenix among others.
